Luther Davis was born April 19,1930, to the late English Davis and Emma Green Davis, in Guilford County, Greensboro, North Carolina. He departed this life on January 23, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, McArthur Generette and Frazier Davis.

Luther’s formative years were spent in Johnsonville, South Carolina, where he attended public school. He joined the United States Army on December 7, 1950 and served an active tour of duty and received an Honorable discharge on December 10,1952. He later chose to re-enlist and served another tour of duty for 3 years receiving another Honorable discharge on January 10, 1957. When asked why he chose to enlist twice, he said, “jobs were scarce”! He loved family gatherings, whether a special holiday or just because as long as there was “good food” as he would say.

Luther was employed by BellSouth Corporation until retirement. He loved to volunteer and gave his time freely at Urban Ministry, Potter House, and the food bank, helping wherever needed. He was a loving, gentle, and kind person, willing to listen and give anyone some of his wisdom. He liked traveling, going to places like the beach, taking train rides, Hershey Town, and local luncheon cruises.

He was previously a member of St. Phillip A. M.E. Zion Church for many years where he served on the Steward Board or helped in any capacity needed. Although he attended various churches, he continued supporting St. Phillip financially by contributing to fundraisers/building funds until his health began to decline.

Those left to cherish his memories are honorary family: Patricia Royal; daughters: Virginia Royal-Harrison (Adolph), Sandra L. Royal; grandsons: Daryl L. Miller, Jr., “Marc”, Christopher G. Woods, Shamar P. Royal, Shaun P. Royal; granddaughters: Shatiah P. Royal, Destiney Harrison; 8 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
