Obituary For Eddie Louis Gordon

Bernard's Madison Chapel announces the death of and funeral services for Eddie Gordon of Madison, Georgia. Mr. Gordon transitioned to eternal rest Monday, January 23, 2023.

Eddie Louis Gordon was born on July 30, 1952, to his parents, Milledge and Irene Gordon. As a young child, Eddie became a member of Springfield Baptist Church. Eddie received his early education from Springfield Church School and later attended Pearl High School in Madison, Georgia. Eddie Gordon graduated as member of Pearl High School’s Class of 1970, the last class to graduate from the historic school.

Eddie's parents raised their children to understand the importance of family and hard work. At an early age, Eddie was taught to work hard while growing up on the family's farm. From an early age Eddie was determined to engage in many work experiences that would provide him opportunities beyond the family farm. These early jobs included work in the dairy, hospital, landscaping and trucking industry. As he gained experience from these jobs, he would eventually develop the skills, initiative and passion to enable him to become a leader and business owner.

Music has always been a passion for Eddie. He was a very skilled musician and singer. As a young man, he was member of the band, Mr. G & the Playboys, which was started by his brother Milledge. While in this band, Eddie played the bass guitar and later played the rhythm guitar. When Milledge Jr. was drafted and went to Vietnam, Eddie took over as the band’s leader. During the early1970s, under Eddie’s leadership, the band became very popular and had numerous performances throughout middle Georgia and beyond. Eddie was energetic, charismatic and highly skilled as the band’s leader in engaging the audiences. The crowd would love to hear Eddie’s colorful and passionate rendition of “Let’s Straighten it Out!”

After the band days, Eddie committed to becoming an entrepreneur and business leader. He started and owned several businesses including Gordon Logging, Septic Service, and Landscaping. Through his businesses, he was able to give training and jobs to several people in Madison and surrounding areas. His leadership and example paved the way for many of these individuals to become entrepreneurs and business owners themselves.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Milledge and Irene Gordon; his siblings: Mildred Aker, Joe Gordon, and Milledge Gordon, Jr.

Eddie leaves to cherish his memory his children: Vinson Gordon, Erica Gordon; and Edienne Walker (Robert); grandchildren, Tyasiah Walker, Ashlynn Walker, Giselle Walker, Prynce Walker, and Dream Dixon; siblings, Ruby Smith, Helen Ward, Annie Ruth Dennis (Fred), Geraldine Harris (Donald), Janice Hurt (Berle), Denise Spencer, Brenda Reid (James), and Danny Gordon (Celestine); a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 4:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. at Bernard's Madison Chapel, 1086 Ward Road, Madison.

A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 27, 2023 at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, 2140 Bethany Church Road, Madison, Georgia 30650 with remains placed in state at the church at 12:00 noon. To the family....On behalf of the Oliver family, our deepest condolences are sent during this most grievous time. Eddie was no stranger to our family. He often stopped by to chat with dad and if he saw the family gathering, he would always stop by. He always had a smile a a good word to say to everybody. He has finished what God purposed him to do. As he rest in the presence of God, be assured of God's promise that you will see him again. May God comfort the family with His love and peace. Minister Janet Oliver-Hunter
