Obituary For Maxine Woods

Mrs. Maxine Dunn Woods, 83, of Charleston, SC entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 22, 2023. She is preceded in death by her parents: Fred Douglas Dunn and Arnel Norwood. Her husband, The Honorable Reverend Robert R. Woods. Her brothers: Henry Dunn, Walter Fred Dunn, Daniel Dunn (DW). Her sisters: Jessie L. Anderson (George) and Juanita Dunn Person(William). Her brother in law, Reverend Cornelius Campbell (Hattie Mae) and daughter in law, Carmelita Woods (Michael) Born in Washington Ga, at an early age, Maxine accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior. She grew up in the Baptist faith and became a Presbyterian after marriage. Maxine was an active member in both Wallingford and St. Andrews Presbyterian churches. She was First Lady at Wallingford for more than 20 years and from there served St. Andrews Presbyterian for more than 20 years as: Sunday school teacher, choir member, church pianist and an active member of the Presbyterian Woman’s Association. Maxine loved reading her Bible. She taught her children the importance of family, education and trusting in the Lord Everyone who knew her, knew she was a child of God! Graduating from Johnson C Smith University in Charlotte NC, with a BS in Education, she taught school for over 40 years, teaching at both Mount Pleasant and Liberty Hill Academy. She challenged her students and had high expectation for them. After retiring, she became an active member of the Charleston County Education Association – R Unit 2. Maxine was a very loving and compassionate person. She loved her husband and family. Her gentle and humorous spirit will be missed by her family and friends. She will be missed, but never forgotten. She is survived by her siblings: Hattie Mae Campbell, Nellie Frances (Coleman) and Adolphus Dunn (Glenda) Her six children: Robert S. Woods of Charlotte, NC; Minister Michael D. Woods ( Carmelita, deceased) of Spartanburg, SC, Stephen J. Woods(Jacquetta)of Killeen, TX, Pren Woods (Tony)of Greenville SC Robin Y. Woods of Charleston SC and Stuart C. Woods(Monica) of Orlando, FL Her 6 grandchildren: Nicole Woods, Michelle Edwards Carmen Woods, Stephen Woods II,(Carmen),Tianna and Tyler Woods. Eight great grands, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives. Visitation with the family will be Friday, January 27, 2023 at the home of her sister, Hattie Mae Campbell, 718 Collette Street, James Island, during the hours of 12 – 2 and 4-7. Funeral services will be Saturday, 11am, January 28, 2023 at St. James Presbyterian Church, USA at 1314 Secessionville Road, James Island, SC 29412, Viewing will be from 9-11, the day of the Services. The family of Maxine Dunn Woods would like to thank all who gave emotional, physical, spiritual and financial support during this time of bereavement. Please continue to pray for the family.
