Beverly loved sports and some said she was a “Tomboy”. She was fast, accurate, and could pick up concepts quickly. In High school Bev participated in the drama club, the choir and was a member of the state finalist basketball team. Beverly also loved softball. A product of integration, Beverly marched for civil change and believed that everyone should be treated equally; she helped to integrate and then graduated from Warner Robins High. She went on to Fort Valley State College.
Beverly loved children and while at Fort Valley, gave birth to her first child, Mishan. Determined to be a great mother, she took on employment at the Warner Robins Daycare Center as a teacher, and would go on to be its director. Many of her students went on to become honor students and have come back to thank her for what she poured into them. In 1984 Beverly began her 30 year civil service career, with numerous promotions and ultimately becoming a manager. She was an outstanding worker and a joy to be around. She didn’t make enemies and would often be found encouraging others to do better. Beverly worked with the Girl Scouts, Vacation Bible School, Sunday School and so much more.
Beverly had a melodic voice. In 1977, Beverly became a Member of the Union Grove Gospel Ensemble. This is when she met the love of her life, Robert Sayles. After a whirlwind courtship they married. While many didn’t give the marriage a year to last, four more children and forty four years later, we all know now, what Beverly knew then… their love was built to last. That love helped her endure 3 successful bouts with cancer, because of her experiences, she was able to be there for Robert as he went through his. She was so easy to love and she will be missed.
Beverly was preceded in death by her sister Vivian, her parents Charles and Derotha, and her brother Arnold Lee.
She leaves to cherish her goodness, her loving husband of almost 45 years Robert; her 5 children, Mishan, Lynda, Jessica, Robert Jr., and Daniel; 7 grandchildren, Jaylan, Gabrielle, Ajah, Austin, Robyn, Jackson, and Le’Reina; and one great grandchild, Elijah. Her siblings, Charlene (James) Lanier of Springfield, Illinois; Delories (Harry) Hallback of Jacksonville, Florida; JoAnne Oglesby of Baxley, Georgia; Ernest Hampton of Warner Robins, Georgia; and sister in law Verna Hampton. She was a mother to so many, including her nieces and nephews, and a few who she considered her own– Vincent (Katina) Fann, Latrese Fann, and Tony Miller. She also has one Aunt, Grace McCoy, and a host of relatives, godchildren, and friends.
