Obituary For Roderick E. Tinsley

On Saturday, January 28, 2023, Rodrick Eugene Tinsley, 52, of New York Ave., Martinsville departed this life at his residence. He was born in Martinsville, VA on February 20, 1970, the son of Tommy β€œHerk” Tinsley, and the late Debrah Price.

In addition to his mother, Debrah Price, Rodrick was preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn Tinsley, maternal grandmother, Helen Price; maternal grandfather, Moyer Payne; and paternal grandmother, Gladys Tinsley; paternal grandfather, Otis Tinsley, Sr.

Rodrick was a graduate of Martinsville High School, class of 1989. He was employed by Nylstar Industries and was a member of Mt. Sinai Apostle Church.

Those left to cherish his memory include his father, Tommy β€œHerk” Tinsley of Martinsville, VA; three daughters, Kayla Perkins, and Raven Tinsley both of Martinsville, VA, and Jasmine Perkins of Collinsville, VA; seven grandchildren, MaKayla Warren, Zion Perkins, MaKira Warren, ZaKayden Warren, Messiah Warren, Khali Poole, and Khoen Smith; two sisters, Beverly Tinsley, and Claudia (Wayne) Draper both of Greensboro, NC; four brothers, Chico (Kerri) Bell of Clayton, NC, Nicholas Tinsley, and Carey Turner both of Martinsville, VA, and Steven Still of Hamden, CT; special cousin/sister, Wytina (Thomas) Grant, and Charmin (Bishop Dennis) Belcher; surrogate father, Otis Tinsley, Jr.; godmother, Veronica Townsend; best friends, Gary Hairston, and Quinton Townsend; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and his 1989 classmates.

A visitation service will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:30p.m. at Mt. Sinai Apostle Church, 7 Peters St., Martinsville with Bishop J. C. Richardson, Jr., Eulogist. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, 1310 Carver Rd., Martinsville. A public viewing will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at the home, 1410 Cardinal Ln., Martinsville.
