Cornell Lewis Whitehead
05/18/1947 - 02/11/2023
Cornell Lewis Whitehead, age 75, son of the late Helen and William Whitehead, was born May 18, 1947 in Charlotte County, Virginia. Cornell had a great love for life, family and friends. His unselfish heart was always willing to help anyone in need. He loved fishing, hunting, and working down at his shop. If you knew Cornell, you also knew his love for cowboy boots and making everyone laugh. Cornell was truly loved and will be greatly missed! At the tender age of fifteen, Cornell, well known as “Super Chicken”, started his trucking career. He continued to pursue his career with Tate Lumber Company for over twenty years. Thereafter, he worked with Toombs Logging Company until his retirement in 2022. He met his lifetime partner, Annie Bell Mosley at the age of 17. They got married on March, 26, 1966. From this union, they had six children: Charles, Durwin, Valerie, Shawnee, Antoine and Rashad. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, William (Bill) Whitehead; two sisters, Corena Harris and Sharon Newkirk; and one son-in- law, Robert Pickard. Those left to treasure his loving memory: his wife, Annie Bell Whitehead; four sons, Charles (Wanda), Durwin “Whistle” (Denise), Antoine “Fecca” (Karessa) and Rashad “Buckwild”; two daughters, Valerie “Fox” and Shawnee “Nookie” (Jeff); ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; four sisters, Claudine, Vanessa, Evelyn and Lovella; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Pettus and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Special recognition to Nook, whom he referred to as “Doc Goodmen” because of her exceptional care for him. Also, we would like to recognize and thank his devoted nephew and close friend, Garland “Whistle” Ligon.
