My earliest and most vivid memory of Sis Joanne, or Terry as she liked to be called, was on an excursion to Prospect Park in our neighborhood in Brooklyn, holding her hand with my pearl handled six-shooters in a holster on my hips. I grew up on a diet of the Lone ranger, Hopalong Cassidy and Roy Rogers with dreams of being a cowgirl. I remember throwing a tantrum when everyone wanted me to leave the guns and holdster at home. Joanne believed in dreams and understood that for her baby sister it was extremely important as to what that gift represented to me, regardless of how silly I might have looked. Dreaming big was a mantra for her that she followed and tried to live. I was lucky to have her when I first moved to Canada in 1972. She was the pioneer, fortunately for me, that knew Toronto inside out. She was the queen of the Parkdale neighbothood, and often would have parties at her place, where she would regale, and inspire all of her guest with stories about famous, and to be honest infamous people she met and knew. She would introduce us casually to politicians, famous musicians, Editors of newspapers, and many of the movers and shakers that made Toronto thrive. There was no one more gutsier and more generous. Rest in love, rest in power, rest in peace, You will always be my 'big sis'!! Gloria
