Willow Mavis Micheal

Passed 02/17/2023

Willow Mavis Micheal passed away February 17, 2023, at home surrounded by her family at the age of 86. She was born in Fuquay-Varina, North Carollina, to the late Fred Stewart, Sr., and Vassie McClean on February 9, 1937. She attended St. Augusta Church at a young age where she began a life-long Christian journey. She attended Fuquay Consolidated High School and graduated from the former J.W. Ligon High School in Raleigh, North Carolina.

After graduation, she attended St. Augustine College in Raleigh, North Carolina, Durham Business School in Durham, North Carolina, and graduated from Wilson N. Jones School of Nursing in Sherman, Texas, in 1964. She then pursued a career in nursing and worked as a nurse at O.B. Cherry Hospital in Goldsboro, North Carolina, Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, North Carolina, North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (Mental Health Center) in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the Wake County Sheriff’s Department where she ultimately retired.

In 1958, she was united in marriage to the late Clarence Micheal. To that union, they welcomed three children, Tracey Micheal of Raleigh, North Carolina, Lerachel Bailey of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Kevin Micheal, also of Raleigh, North Carolina.

She traveled with her spouse while he served in the military to Texas, England, Goldsboro, North Carolina, and then to Spain.

Willow loved her Savior, the Lord Jesus, with all her heart, and she loved God’s Word. Only Heaven knows what a wonderful and eternal impact all her many years of faithful praying have had on her family and friends. Her passion was the Missionary Ministry. She was a founding member of the Clothes Closet where she worked tirelessly to provide clothing for those in need until her illness caused her to leave the work to others.

She is survived and leaves blessed memories with her three children, Tracey (Marcia), Lerachel, and Kevin (Wanda); sisters, Ellan of Apex, NC, and Nelly of Spring Lake, NC; brother, Bobby Leach of Spring Lake, NC; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews who lovingly referred to her as “Fat Cat,” and many other beloved family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Fred Jr., Bernard, and Roosevelt, and her sisters Gladys, Thelma, Leona, Myrtle, Rebecca, and Elaine.
