Obituary For Mr. Tommy Lee Laster – 63 of Valdosta Georgia

In acceptance lieth peace, O my heart be still; Let thy restless worries cease and accept His will. Though this test be not thy choice, it is His -- therefore rejoice.

Mr. Tommy Lee Laster – (63) of Valdosta Georgia, was born on Friday, December 25, 1959, and departed from this busy walk of life on Friday, February 17, 2023.

Mr. Tommy Lee Laster St, affectionately known as "Rambo", was born on December 25, 1959 to the late Nathaniel Sr. and Bertha (Camel) Laster in Albany, GA. He was a member of Greater Mt. Carmel Baptist Church of Valdosta, Georgia. He graduated from Dougherty High School in 1978, where he was a standout football player. He was a devoted, loving, and exceptional son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

He was also a decorated marine, who earned a purple heart, the highest honor, during his service in the United States Marine Corps. Among the purple heart, Tommy earned many other commendations of honor during his service. He deemed himself "Rambo" due to how he maneuvered through life with such grace, resilience, and strength, despite the challenges he conquered. This strength allowed him to survive the Beirut bombing of 1983, where he was trapped under rubble and found on the last day of the rescue mission. As the story goes, rescuers saw debris flying and ran over to aide the trapped soldier. That soldier happened to be SSGT Tommy Lee Laster, trying to free himself. He was rescued from the rubble and hospitalized, spending three months in a coma. It's safe to say that through this ordeal, Tommy proved that he was indeed like "Rambo". In the words of a military General the family recently encountered through his death, "he was a true war hero". Outside of his military accolades, Tommy was a true humanitarian. There was nothing that he wouldn't do for his loved ones and people in general. He loved and greatly supported his children and other family members. On any given day, you could find him manicuring the lawn of an elderly citizen or lending a helping hand in some other regard to countless others. Tommy also had a love of sports, particularly football.

After his military service, he played semi-pro football in Valdosta, GA for a number of years. He also owned a lawn care service and created some of the most beautiful lawns all around South Georgia. Tommy was the true definition of a man, in every way. He left quite an impression on this world, one that is immeasurable.

Tommy leaves to cherish his memories, three children: Shameka Laster-Heyward (Deshaun), Odessia Laster, and Tommy Lee Laster Jr.; bonus daughter: LaTosha Howard-White (Brian) ; three grandchildren: Anilah Pierce, Lailah Heyward, and Milani Thomas; bonus granddaughter: Taylor White; one sister: Eloise Laster and four brothers: Nathaniel Laster Jr. (Judith) , Otis Laster, Woodrow Laster (Frances), John T. Laster; Like a Father: Chuck Roberts (Ann) and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends.

Laster Family Hold to God's unchanging hand, and he will see you through this trying time.
