Aaron D. Johnson

Passed 02/18/2023

Aaron Dion Johnson, 39, transitioned peacefully into eternal rest on February 18, 2023. A native of Spartanburg County, he was born June 22, 1983 to the late Sylvia Johnson Poindexter and Lloyd “Leon” Poindexter.

Aaron was a 2004 graduate of McCarthy Teszler School and attended the Charles Lea Center. He also took classes at USC Upstate for the Charles Lea Educational Enrichment Program.

Aaron never met a stranger and loved to greet everyone with a hug and a head rub. He loved music, dancing, water, outdoors, his keyboard, SEGA, ice cream but most of all he loved his family. Although Aaron loved his mother deeply, the bond he had with his father was like no other as he was definitely a daddy’s boy! Aaron leaves behind a legacy of profoundly impacting everyone he met. With an infectious smile and loving personality, he spread joy to everyone he came in contact with. He helped those around him to understand what being born different actually means. Aaron was not born with a disability, but a gift that allowed others to see the purity of treating everyone equally because you truly know of no other way to be. The footprint he has left on earth to those who had the honor of coming in contact with him will carry on for years to come.

Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: his brothers, Kenneth (Cheryl) Poindexter of Spartanburg, SC, Charles (Michelle) Poindexter of Columbia, SC, and Ashley Johnson of Enoree, SC; his sisters Rita Poindexter Shippy of Spartanburg, SC and Joy Johnson (Russell) Tabron of Rock Hill, SC; a special niece Amber Johnson Hughes and nephew Byron Poindexter, and a host of other nieces, nephews and family. He was preceded in death by his sister Mary Poindexter.

A Celebration of the Life of Aaron Dion Johnson will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC. Burial will be in the Heritage Memorial Gardens, 3901 S. Church St., Spartanburg, SC.
