Obituary For Mother Bethany Harley

Mother Harley departed her life on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at McLeod’s Medical Center in Dillon, South Carolina. She was born to the late Sylvester and Everlee Montgomery Williams on September 13, 1930 in Dillon, South Carolina. Mother Harley was very well known. She was known as “Bet” to some people, Mrs. Bet and aunt Bet to others. She attended Dillon County Public Schools. She was employed by Russell Stover Candy in Marion, South Carolina where she retired from in 1995. Her hobbies included cooking, working with flowers, and caring for her family and friends, but her greatest passion was serving the Lord. She attended the Greater Highway Church of Christ in Latta, South Carolina under the leadership of Bishop R.F. Davis for numerous years. There she served on the Pastor’s Aid Committee, and she was also a faithful member of the senior choir. Later she moved her membership to True Faith Deliverance Temple in Mullin, South Carolina under the leadership of Bishop Levester Williams Sr. where she served faithfully until her health started to decline. One of her favorite songs was “I’m Going to Serve the Lord,” and that she did. Mother Bethany Harley was married to the late JD Harley for 30 plus years. During this union they were blessed the 6 children. Bethany was preceded in death by her parents and 5 brothers: Roosevelt, Sylvester, Johnny, Leroy, and JC Williams. Bethany leaves to cherish her legacy and loving memories: Barbara Harley, William “Jay” (Jackie) Harley, Kent Harley, Sandra Harley all of Dillon, SC, Melinda (Jeffrey) Blue of Chester, VA, and Diane Harley of Augusta, GA. Three sisters Rosa Leslie of Dillon, SC, Girley (Roland) Peed of Randallstown, MD, Evelyn Brown of Florence, SC. Five brothers Joe (Betty) Williams of Dillon, SC, James (Florine) Williams of Latta, SC, Bishop Levester (Ella) Willams of Florence, SC, Willie (Betty) Williams of Dillon, SC and Eugene (Gloria) of Dillon, SC. Sister in laws: Annie R. Williams and Blondell Harley Mearite. Eleven grandchildren, Janaria (Demetrius) Allen of Florence, SC, Sedonia Harley of Charlotte, NC, Sherina (Calvin) Wright of Dillon, SC, Torrian Harley of Augusta, GA, Sabrina (Cymone) Blue of Chester, VA, M’Kala Blue of Charlottesville, VA, Kanashya Harley of Dillon, SC, Ja’Bria and La’Brea Harley of Spartanburg SC, Kentrae Harley of Houston, TX, and Pre’Aonte Harley of Dillon, SC. Great Grandchildren, Zanasgerie Allen of Greenville SC, Syian Allen of Florence SC, Samiyah and Kamari Harley of Charlotte NC, Chelsea Blue of Chester VA, Karter Harley of Charlotte NC, and Jaius Allen of Florence SC, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. A special friend, Ada-Mae McCollum whom she loved dearly.

It was always a pleasure seeing Mother Harley, her sister and her niece Dot. I already knew that Dot was going to seek direction to where i had hats located and Mother Harley would follow suit if the service permitted time. Even when Dot wasn't present Mother Harley inquired. She would always be smiling regardless of the situation. I am praying for the entire family and bodies of associated and affiliated churches. Yet another Giant tree has fallen among us!
