Virgil M. Hardin, II

Virgil M. Hardin II, transitioned peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2023, in Bethlehem, PA. Virgil was born in New Orleans on February 13, 1955, and was a former longtime resident of Cincinnati, OH. He began traveling with his military family in 1960 until he joined the Navy in 1972.

Virgil was assigned to the nuclear submarine training program, but transitioned to electronics, a field he loved and excelled in. He proudly served on the USS Coral Sea and the USS Spruance during the Vietnam war. After six years in the Navy, Virgil went into pre-med at the University of Washington State for two years with nearly a perfect SAT score and perfect grades. He settled in Cincinnati, OH where he and a partner started their own technical company, HVS Systems. He worked for the Navy as a consultant in Cincinnati on government projects. He thrived on making things work that required autonomy and the intricacies using his level of expertise.

Virgil remained spiritual having been raised in the Catholic church. He served as an altar boy during his youth.

Virgil is preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Louise (Baranco) Hardin; grandparents, aunts and uncles.

Virgil’s legacy will be cherished by: his father, Retired Colonel Dr. Virgil M. Hardin; sisters, Beverly Andrea (Hardin) Conklin and Mildred Louise Hardin Jackson; brother, Michael L. Hardin (Regina); uncle, Gregory T. Baranco (Juanita); aunts, Bette M. Bland (Richard), Dr. Patricia E. Baranco, Terry Baranco, Cecilia Hardin, and Nicole Hardin; a host of nieces and nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.

A celebration of life will be 10:00 AM with a rosary and 11:00 AM mass, Saturday, March 4, 2023, at St. Jospeh Catholic Church (2607 Lumpkin Road-Augusta, GA 30906). Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you consider a donation to the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI.org).
