Obituary For Deacon Leroy Johnson

Leroy Johnson was born in Greensboro, Georgia to the late Jesse Johnson, Jr., and Mrs. Johnnie Reba Johnson on April 6, 1951, and was the second of nine children.

At an early age, Leroy joined Springfield Baptist Church and served in many roles. At a young age he was active in Sunday School and BTU. Later in life he taught Sunday School, became a deacon, drove the church's van for Vacation Bible School, and was the church's handyman.

Leroy was educated in the Greene County School System and was a proud graduate of F. T. Corry High School in 1969. He attended Fort Valley State College and University and Athens Technical School. Leroy was employed at Alma Plastics for numerous years, taught Automotive Shop at Greene Taliaferro Comprehensive High School, was employed as a Sears Service Technician, and retired from Sears. After retirement he enjoyed working on lawn mowers, other small engines, repairing almost anything, working in the yard, and fishing.

Leroy was married to Barbara Smith Johnson for 51 years. Their children are Aubrey Johnson (Juanita), Greensboro, GA and Geoffrey Aplin (Teresa), Palm Bay, Florida. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather to: DeAndra, DeKissia, Kameron, Tamara, Dana, Braylon (BJ), Jamari (Nya) and Diana. They were the joy of his life and lovingly called him "Granddaddy."

Leroy was called home to be with his savior Jesus Christ, Sunday, February 26, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Johnnie Reba, maternal and paternal grandparents, sisters, Annette Humphrey, Norris Jackson, Glenda Kendricks, and Deborah Smith.
