Obituary For Mary Alice Ndiaye

Mary Alice Gray N’Diaye was born on Wednesday, February 27, 1946, in Ty Ty, Georgia, to Jessie Mae Nichols Gray, age 30, and Ulysees “Bud” Gray Sr., age 33. At the age of 9, her family moved to Miami, Florida. Mary graduated from Miami Northwestern High School in 1964. After graduating, she began a career with Hertz Rental Car Company. Her job as customer service specialist consisted of meeting and greeting politicians, famous actors and actresses, visiting local high schools in the capacity as an Hertz liaison, in addition to working the Hertz counter. She was proud to be the first Black woman hired by Hertz in Miami, and she later relocated to the city of Los Angeles, California.

While living in Los Angeles, she met Souky L. N’Diaye. They were married on May 29, 1982. The birth of a son, Djibril Alioune Frederick Ndiaye, was soon to follow on September 13, 1983. She was a valued church member of Pastor Frederick K.C. Price’s Crenshaw Christian Center for over 40 years. In addition to working at Hertz, she was a Registered Nurse for Nurses Registry in Inglewood, CA for many years and retired in Spring 2013. Two years later, Mary moved to Atlanta, Georgia to be closer to family.

Mary cherished her entire family. She was a beloved mother, aunt, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed spending time with all of her family and shared many memories, phone and personal conversations with family & friends. Mary was a big fan of music from Frank Sinatra to B.B. King to Mariah Carey to Nate Dogg, favoring the genres of Classical & Gospel the most. She played the violin and piano as well. She was always firm on sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Bible with everyone.

Mary N’Diaye departed this life on Sunday, February 19, 2023 in Atlanta, GA. She was 76 years old. She was preceded in death by Father, Ulysses Gray Sr.; Mother, Jessie Mae Gray, Sister: Mary Lisa Gray, Sister, Juanita Yancy, Sister, Pearlie Mae Rutherford, Brother, Ulysses Gray Jr., Sister, Dorothy Mae Pitts, and Brother, Carlton Gray Sr.

Mary leaves to cherish her memories her son, Djibril Alioune Frederick Ndiaye Sr. (Yvette); her grandson, Djibril Bobbie Ndiaye; her siblings, Charles Gray, Myrtice Pino, David Gray; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends across the country.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethany Missionary Baptist Church on 146 Ty Ty Sycamore Rd, in Ty Ty, GA. with committal service being held in St. Mark Cemetery in Ty Ty, GA.
