Obituary For Carlton Radcliffe Scarlett

Carlton Radcliffe Scarlett, 89, passed away peacefully on March 6th, 2023, at a facility in Augusta, GA. Carlton was born in Kingston, Jamacia on March 22, 1933, to the late Joseph Rupert Scarlett and late Neatha Agatha Raymond-Scarlett. He is also preceded in death by three brothers, Austin E. Scarlett, Lawrence S. Scarlett and Lewyn Scarlett. Carlton later migrated to the United States in 1966. In 1968, he joined the U.S. Army where he served two tours in Vietnam with the 523rd Sig. Battalion and the 23rd Infantry. While serving he was awarded The Bronze Star, two Vietnam service medals, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Medal .

On June 30, 1974, he married the love of his life Maria Davis. He was enrolled in the Adventist School system until the early age of 15 years old. He later studied at Kingston Technical College in Kingston Jamaica with a major in Electrical Engineering. After coming to the U.S., he attended Aiken Technical College and also graduated from Atlanta University with a degree in counseling. Following the unction of the Holy Spirit he joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church at an early age where he remained faithful until his death. He held membership in the Wrens Seventh Day Adventist where he served as a deacon, elder, choir director, pathfinder leader and master guide. Carlton held many roles in his community. He worked as an Alcohol & Drug Abuse Counselor, a Richmond County Deputy Sheriff, CPR and First Aid Instructor, service technician with Pitney Bowes and an EMT with Richmond County.

As a skill craftsman, he was an excellent builder, AC/Refrigeration tech and auto mechanic until his health failed.

Many of his hobbies included fishing, table tennis, ping pong, pool, boating, cycling and motor car racing. Because of his love for the Lord, Carlton accepted his calling as a missionary in Ethiopia five times, in Mongolia and Honduras. He will be dearly missed and always remembered. In his passing, he leaves behind his loving wife, Maria Davis Scarlett; seven children, Carlton V. “Dehdeh Black” Scarlett, DonnaKaye L. Scarlett, Carla Scarlett, Donald Scarlett, Joseph A. Scarlett, Tiruwork “Mimi”(Tesfaye Guyassa) Tucho, heart children, Charles (Donyale) Clark, Stephen Scarlett(Marlene); 15 grandchildren, Afiqua, Amina, Kenia, Abigah, Carlton, Kurt, Kyle, Kassi, Ryan, Hussien Harris, Melissa Harris, Meti, Biftu, Abdi, Kenna; 5 heart grandchildren, Elliott, Donavan, Daniel, Christian and Janelle; eight great grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond J. Scarlett, Kermith A. Scarlett and Clifton G. Scarlett; four sister-in-laws Carolyn Crew, Mary Kelly, Mildred Davis and Kathy (Jimmie)Davis-Wiley: heart sisters, Beverly Scarlett and Ellen Scarlett. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

He was such a kind, thoughtful and loving person always there to lend a helping hand and give words of encouragement and share the Word. He truly loved the Lord. I will dearly miss him.
