Wisdom. Purity. Love. Precious. Luck. Treasure. These are a few terms used to best describe a pearl. Why a pearl you ask? “Pearl” is the meaning of the name Margaret. Thusly, the name Louise means “renowned warrior”. When Margaret Louise began her earthly life in Alpine, Alabama on February 27, 1933, her parents Olen and Willie Louise (née Sawyer) Cole may not have known the meaning of this name, but they raised her as one of their six children to live up to the name she was given.

Margaret’s seeds of faith in God were sown by her parents, but these seeds were watered, nurtured and grew through the years under the care of the leadership at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. The harvest produced a Sunday school teacher, a missionary and a member of the Mother Board. The importance of education was imparted upon her at an early age. Margaret was a graduate of Talladega County Training School and continued her education at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University in Normal, Alabama where she received a degree in education. She dedicated her life to teaching the youth in her community and her love for teaching and reading extended beyond the four classroom walls during her spare time. Civically, Margaret served as the past Most Ancient Matron of Brown #891 of the Order of the Eastern Star.

On August 15, 1955, Margaret Louise became Mrs. John Williams. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Deborah and Zabrina.

Margaret’s legacy lives on in her two children, Deborah Williams of Talladega, Alabama and Zabrina (John) Zweber of Rosemount, Minnesota; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Leonard (Margurette) Cole of Alpine, Alabama; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

On the evening of March 7, 2023, Margaret answered the Lord’s call and reunited with her husband, John; her parents Olen and Willie Louise; and her siblings, Josephus, Thomas, Everett and Viola.
