Obituary For Carl Lorenza Thompson

Mr. Carl Lorenza Thompson was born in Boston, Georgia, on October 14, 1961, to the late Charlie and Martha Thompson. He was the ninth out of twelve children with the union formed between his mother and father. At an early age he accepted Christ as his Lord and personal savior and became a member of the New Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he would go on to later serve as an usher and an active member in the youth ministry. Carl graduated from Central High School in 1980 where he was a part of the Yellow Jackets basketball team. His athletic ability not only gained him praise amongst his peers, but he was also awarded for his talents on the court. Carl was a jack of all trades, a very talented and gifted individual which made him employable in many areas. He was employed at Sunnyland Meat Packing company for two years after high school. In 1982 he moved to Rivera Beach, FL, where he developed a skill in plastering and part-time lawn service for six years. After the passing of his father in 1988, he returned home to Boston, GA, and was employed at Balfour Lumber company for 20 years. In 2017, he moved to Albany, GA, and became employed at Balfour Pole. He later moved to Camilla, GA, and continued his career at Balfour Pole as a Forklift operator until his health failed him in January 2023. Carl’s favorite pastime activities included watching basketball and football. He also enjoyed playing spades, giving family and friends much laughter and fun to always look forward to because of his witty yet scheming way he played the game. Most of all Carl was considered the resident standup comedian always ready to tell a joke or simply make someone laugh with just his comedic delivery. His funniest most notable incident to date remains his sprinting skills when coming in contact with chickens and or Madea’s switch both of which he feared. Carl had the following siblings that preceded him in death, one sister and two brothers: Barbara Allen, James David Thompson, and Charlie Thompson III (Priscilla). He leaves to celebrate 61 years of life: two sons, Markell Lovejoy (Reba) of Atlanta, GA, and Randal Lovejoy of Atlanta, GA. One stepdaughter: Lindsay K. Williford of Camilla, GA, and a loving devoted friend, Lacresha Ann Miller of Camilla, GA. He also leaves to celebrate his life with five sisters: Sarah Bryant of Miami, Florida. Catherine Hagins (James) of Gordon, GA; Ruby Barnes (Marvin) of Okinawa, Japan; Eula “Kaye” Woodruff (Gregory) of Hephzibah, GA and Clera Porter of Tallahassee, FL. Three Brothers: Johnny Thompson (Geraldine) of Boston, GA, Phillip Thompson (Vonda) of Bowling Green, KY, and Andrew Thompson (Wysteria) of Ooltewah, TN. He also leaves eight grandchildren to celebrate his life: Keyshawn, Brianna, Jamarria, Kristen, Calvin, Kealey, Ariella, Leyeeah, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, March 17, 2023 at the Stevens-McGhee chapel from 4PM-7PM.

Home going service will be Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 9AM at New Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Elect Nivea Hollis, officiating. Burial will follow in the New Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.
