Mrs. Gertha Foster Herndon, was the fifth child born on August 8, 1927 to Mr. Abraham Foster, Sr. and Mrs. Callie Porter Foster in Glennville, AL of Russell County. Her parents; five siblings and only son (James F. Herndon) preceded her in death. She was educated in the Russell County School System. She united with Christ at an early age at St. John A.M.E. Church in Glennville, AL. Gertha gained her heavenly wings on Sunday, March 19, 2023. Her memories will be forever cherished by her husband of 74 years, Mr. James I. Herndon; three daughters: Ernestine H. Bryant, Montgomery, AL.; Icyphine H. Welcher (Hannie), Augusta, GA.; and Helen H. Jones, Montgomery, AL.; two sisters: Mary Welborn, Eufaula, AL.; and Ruby Flanagan, Columbus, GA.; Gertha's memories will also be cherished by her nine grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren. She leaves many beloved nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church, 1161 County Road 7, Fitzpatrick, AL 36029. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in Eastwood Memorial Gardens, Montgomery, AL.
