Commen attended the public school system in Richmond County. She later attended Virginia College and Augusta Tech University. She accepted Jesus Christ in her life and was baptized at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member.
Commen greatest achievement and dream was to become an entrepreneur. She founded Bentlee’s Closet and Children’s Boutique, which was the start of many of her business ventures. She was very adamant about leaving and starting a legacy for her daughter Bentlee, which she did and was very successful in her endeavors.
Commen’s pride and joy was the birth of her daughter Bentlee, whom she stated was her “Miracle Baby.”
Commen is preceded in death by her stepfather, Robert Rouse and two aunts Mattie Bennett and Helen Kemp.
Left to cherish fondest memories of Commen are: her loving daughter, Bentlee Mayo; mother, Diane Dean Schultz Rouse; grandmother, Mary Pearl Dean; dear sister, Sarah LaTonya Brown-Fegan; loving brother, Darrell L. Schultz; three aunts, Louise (Daryl) Carpenter, Cecilia (Don)Davis, and Josie Dean; four uncles, John (Laverne) Dean, Roy Dean, James Dean, and Ralph (Vanessa) Dean; four nieces, Saquoia, Chelsea, Megyn and Morgan; three nephews, Chandler, Jaded, and Mason; a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 1, 2023, at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, with Reverend Larry Carter officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Memorial Gardens.
