Throughout life, God will bless us beyond measure and for her parents, husband, and siblings that preceded her in death, as well as her children, grandchildren, siblings, other relatives and friends that Mary Precious Weeks left behind on March 19, 2023, she definitely was that special type of blessing. Her story cannot be written by the standard bookmarks, we have to look at all the impactful chapters in between.
Mary Precious (Moore) Weeks, “Precious” to those who loved her most, was born on November 18, 1941, in Salem, Alabama to the late Elijah Pearson and the late Beulah (Moore) Morgan.
As a young child, she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and joined the Pleasant Hill African Methodist Episcopal Church family. Precious was educated in the public schools of Lee County, Alabama to include Dorsey Elementary, Sanford and Wacoochee High School.
During her teenage years, Mary met her classmate Eddie Weeks’ brother and a romance that would last a lifetime blossomed. On April 25, 1959, Mary Precious Moore entered into holy matrimony with the late Deacon James Weeks. Together they loved, cherished and molded six children, 16 grandchildren and six great children. On March 22, 2012, God returned for His son and Mary lost her beloved husband but would be blessed with an additional 25 great grandchildren.
Mary’s spiritual growth continued and early in her marriage, she became a faithful member of The Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church family where she served in various capacities alongside her husband. Before her health began to fail, many of us affectionately remember the great times we had when she and Sis. Fannie Lamar led the Youth Department. Together they made sure we understood the importance of allowing God to lead our paths and sponsored so many memorable events. She loved her church family, her relatives, friends and her community. Her home and heart were opened to all.
Precious was employed as a Nurse Technician with Cobb Memorial in Phenix City for several years. She also was a Bus Driver for Darden Head Start Center until Arthritis limited her ability to drive. The position that gave her much joy was done without pay; she cared for her grandchildren. During that time, she instilled in them the same values she instilled in her children: always put God first and family second, hold your family close to your heart and always be there for each other, always be proud of who you are and where you came from, and you better never let anyone relegate you to a second-class citizen. She loved to read and inspired them to excel in school and to have a thirst for knowledge and they answered her call! She was proud to tell anyone that listened that all her grandchildren have a bachelor’s degree. She loved her family, and they absolutely adored her!
