Obituary For Mary Greenwood

Mary Nell Greenwood was born on April 6, 1951, to the union of Felix Greenwood Jr. and Lillie D. Golden Greenwood in Holmes, MS. She was the first child born to this union. Mary received her formal education in Sallis, MS and graduated in 1970 from Long Creek High School. She later became a certified nursing assistant and an Alzheimer's caregiver.

Mary accepted Christ at an early age. She became a member of Greener Chapel Church of the First Born under the leadership of the late Bishop H.D. Johnson. She later fellowshipped with New St. James Church of God in Christ. Mary loved to sing and listen to gospel music.

Mary was affectionately known as Mae or unt Mae. She loved to read and bake. She kept up with the news in her home state by receiving their newspaper. Mary was a home body, caring, and giving. Whatever her father asked of her, she would rush to get it for him. She took on the role of a mother to her siblings when her mother passed. She was also a second mom to her nephew, Devin.

Mary was an on-time person. If you were late, she would call you. When getting her clients ready for church, she would get them ready an hour ahead of time so they would not be late. Mary was employed by Stowell Associates as a certified nursing assistant. She loved taking care of people up until her health started to fail. It was her desire to hopefully return to her profession one day.

Mary Greenwood departed this life on March 7, 2023. She was preceded in death by: mother, Lillie D. Greenwood; stepmother, Katherine Greenwood; 2 brothers, Cicero Greenwood and Edward Greenwood; and sister, Linda F. Sallis Riley.

Mary leaves to cherish her precious memory: father, Felix Greenwood Jr.; 4 brothers, Felix (Ruth) Greenwood III, James (Patricia) Greenwood, both of Sallis, MS, Thomas Greenwood of Canton, MS, and Robert (Carol) Greenwood of Virginia Beach, VA; 3 sisters, Betty (Rinzy) Roundtree, Brenda Greenwood, both of Milwaukee, WI, and Evelyn (Myron) Swain of Lompoc, CA; 4 stepsisters; 1 stepbrothers; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and friends.
