Dorothy Mae Hawkins, the daughter of the late Rosa Lee and Leon Wright, was born on August 3, 1939, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Dorothy entered into eternal rest on March 21, 2023. Dorothy grew up in Orangeburg, SC and received her formal education in the public schools of Orangeburg County. At a very early age, Dorothy joined the Zion United Methodist Church in Jamison SC. (Now North Orangeburg United Methodist Church) For many years she was employed by House of Poultry and Alexander's Restaurant in Orangeburg SC Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Rosa and Leon Wright, and her long time special friend Mr. Arthur Glover. Dorothy was known for her deep love for her family and her insatiable passion for old music of all genres. She cherished every moment spent with her loved ones and always tried to make sure that they were happy. Her love for old music was evident in the way she would light up whenever a classic tune played. Dorothy's enthusiasm for both her family and old music was infectious, and those around her were Blessed to have experienced it firsthand. Dorothy leaves to cherish these fond memories: four sisters, Jessie Glover, Rosa Cash, Alice Wright, Evelyn Berry and Linda Jefferson (A Special Sister/Friend) all of Orangeburg, SC; One uncle, Harry (Shirley) Bellinger of Orangeburg, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and f riends.
Dorothy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. May her memory be a Blessing to all who knew her.
Ms. Hawkins passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Pruitt Health, Orangeburg.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 27, 2023, from 2:00pm - 6:00pm.
