Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: And the fruit of the womb is his reward. (Psalm 127:3P Curtis Wright and Francis Jackson were blessed with their reward, Haywood Jackson, on May 1, 1952, in Talladega County, Alabama. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 19:14) At an early age, Haywood began his Christian journey at Africa Missionary Baptist Church. As he matured into manhood, so did his faith which lead him to become a member at New Maryland Missionary Baptist Church. He had been ordained as a deacon and served in that capacity for 29 years. Additionally, Haywood drive the church van for 13 years, sang with the choir and male chorus, held the office of assistant superintendent and for 23 years worked as the Sunday school superintendent.

Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it. (Proverbs 22:6) Haywood was educated in the Talladega County schools and was a graduate of Winterboro High School. He found that he enjoyed working on cars, so naturally this love turned into a career opportunity. For many years, Haywood worked as a mechanic. He was last a dedicated employee of Wal-Mart Talladega. When he was not at work or tinkering with cars, Haywood could be found cutting the grass and maintaining the upkeep of his family’s home or cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide.

And the Lord God said, It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. (Genesis 2:18) God kept his promise and made a help meet for Haywood so that he would not be alone. On April 28, 1974, he took the hand of the former Willie Ann Harmon in holy matrimony and to this union they were blessed with three children.

The Lord is night unto them that are of a broken heart; And saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. (Psalm 34:18) 48 years of love and memories will be cherished by Haywood’s wife, Willie Ann Jackson; he will be greatly missed by his two children, Juanita Jackson of Augusta, Georgia and Jermain (Rachel) Jackson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; nine grandchildren, Manihil Jackson, Faith Jackson, Lashay Jackson, Keiundra Jackson, Regine (Earel) Garduce, Jaylon (Duelse) Wilson, Qua’Daijah Jackson and Jermain Jackson, Jr.; eight sisters, Sandra Wright, Tamatha Wright, Gwen (Greg) Lindsey, Violet Wright, Diletha Hall and Gloria Wright of Talladega, Alabama, Marilyn Ware of St. Lucie, Florida and Louise Powell of Springfield, Ohio; six brothers, Melvin (Lorraine) Wright, Tony (Vanessa) Wright, Jerome Wilson and Curtis (Debra) Brown of Talladega, Alabama, James (Laverne) Smoot of Columbus, Ohio and Kenny Smoot of St. Paul, Minnesota; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Blessed are those that mourn: for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5:4) On the morning of March 28, 2023, there was a void left in many hearts here on earth, but the angels of Heaven rejoiced when Haywood arrived home. He was welcomed by his parents, Curtis Wright and Francis Jackson; and a daughter, Catherine Francis Jackson.
