Obituary For Donald Jim Jones

A memorial service for Mr. Donald Jones, 74, of Alpine will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Terry's Mortuary Chapel. There will not be a public visitation.

He Lived- The wait was over and on April 22, 1948, Casey Jones and his bride, Willie Ann, welcomed their first child, a son they named Donald Jim (DJ), in Talladega County, Alabama.

He Learned- The first knowledge that one acquires comes from your home. Being that DJ was the oldest, there was more than likely lots of trials and errors as it pertains to being a parent. After being trained at home, the second place for learning comes in the house of the Lord. Casey and Willie Ann made sure they DJ and his siblings gained a good spiritual foundation at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church from a young age and understand just how the work of the Lord is done. The schools of Talladega County established the foundation of earthly education that would be needed to make a living for himself. The time spent in the classroom concluded when DJ graduated from Talladega County Training School.

He Labored- On August 5, 1968, Donald entered the United States Navy. He served honorably until May 8, 1970. Upon returning to civilian life, DJ became a trained electrician completing all the requirements for licensing. He began working tirelessly as a journeyman with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 136. Although work would often carrying him away from home, he was afforded the opportunity to travel for work to various places across the country.

He Loved- On July 2, 1972, Donald took the hand of the former Shirley Ann Mosley. They were blessed with one daughter and two grandsons they adored.

He Left- DJ will be greatly missed from the presence, but not the heart of his wife of 50 years, Shirley A. Jones of Talladega, Alabama; a daughter, Danielle Jones of Birmingham, Alabama; two grandsons, Kristian K. Jones and Micah S. Jones; six siblings, Joyce Jones, Jannell (Winston) Lovelace, Veronica Burk, Edith (James) Fomby, Hisham Rashad and Cody Jones; four aunts, Juliette Betty Brown, Lena Swain, Eppie Harvey and Bertha Washinton; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. On March 30, 2023, the Lord whispered to Donald and told him “come with me and I will give you rest from your labor.” So on that Thursday morning, DJ quietly traded time for eternity. Donald was reunited in eternity with his parents, Casey and Willie Ann Jones.
