At the age of 6, he contracted polio which permanently affected his right side. Fortunately he was left-handed and nevertheless thrived into adolescence as a pitcher on the baseball team at Chapel Hill School. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Chapel Hill MB Church where he remained an active member having participated in the Laymans Association as well as the Male and Gospel Choirs.
He attended Sumner Hill and eventually graduated in 1956 from Brinkley High School in Jackson, MS. He continued his education with studies at Career Development in Jackson, MS and Utica Junior College in Utica, MS.
He came to be commonly called by his middle name, “Kirby”. As a young man he was remembered in his 1957 hard-top convertible Chevrolet widely about the community or on his way to work with his father pouring concrete in commercial construction. Later, his strong work ethic would serve him in many other endeavors including as a Funeral Attendant with Collins Funeral Home; a truck driver delivering Coca-Cola products for Gulf States Canners, Inc in Clinton, MS or lumber supplies for Jackson Wholesale in Jackson, MS; and a contractor with Jackson Academy and thereafter as a self-employed carpenter sought after for his cabinetry skills. He would eventually retire to become a caretaker as the health of his father and mother began to fail prior to their deaths in May 1999 and January 2014, respectively. He was also preceded in death by his second son, Ivory O. Green
Kirby departed this life March 26, 2023 at home and at peace. He leaves to mourn his memory the mother of his sons Addie Lee Green; his eldest son Alvin Green Jr and youngest son Torrance Green; Eight Grandchildren Shutoria Green, Elisha Green, Asha Green, Ethan Green, Alex Dent, Ivy Green, Kilby Green and Milan Green; Two Great-granddaughters Madelyn Green and Riley Green and a host of other relatives and friends.
