Mr. Robert Odell Lilly was born on June 9, 1949 in the Cedar Hill Community to the late Elizabeth F. Lilly and Ernestine Odell Clark. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Colson, with whom he shared a tight bond.
Robert, affectionately known as Rob, Banner and Unc, attended the public schools of Anson County. He was a 1967 graduate of J.R. Faison High School. After graduating from high school, Robert enlisted in the United States Navy.
Robert joined the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at an early age. After being out of service for years, Rob was eager to attend church to hear God’s word. He loved helping people in the community if he could. He loved watching Westerns and Sports. He loved football and his favorite team was the Carolina Panthers.
Robert truly enjoyed being around his family. His memories will forever be cherished by his loving family: four sisters, Brenda Davis of New London, NC, Terry Lilly-Taylor of Ansonville, NC, Tina Rivers of Columbus, Georgia and Sandra Mauney of Richmond, Virginia; two brothers, Elvis Lilly (Sebrena) of Ansonville, NC and Jerry Lilly of Aberdeen, NC; four aunts, Betty Smith of Detroit, Michigan, Curlean Lilly of Ansonville, NC, Leola Clark of Norwood, NC and Sarah Clark of Oakboro, NC; five nephews, Antoine S. Lilly (Tanika), Hakim E. Lilly (Alba), Henry Rivers Jr. (Candace), Kyri J. Davis (Christy) and Keonte’ Davis (Sandreanie); four nieces, Rasheda Nicholson (James) of Charlotte, NC, Nakia Lilly (Carrie) of Norwood, NC, Chatia Lilly and Endia Lilly both of Ansonville, NC; a host of great nieces and great nephews.
Robert adopted Pastor Nelson and First Lady Patrice Barringer as his newly niece and nephew and they called him, “Unc”. He had several special friends, Ender and Cleveland Carelock, Carl Little and Alfred Johnson.
The Homegoing Services will be on Thursday, April 13, 2023, 1:00pm, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Ansonville, North Carolina. Interment will be in the family plot of the Church Cemetery.
The Lilly Family will greet family and friends on Thursday, April 13, 2023 from 12:30-1:00pm at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
The public viewing will be on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 2-5:30pm at Smith’s Funeral Home.
