Melba L. Hughes

Melba L. Evans Hughes, made the transition to her heavenly home on April 12, 2023. She was born on September 19, 1939, in Taliaferro County, Georgia, to the late John Wesley Evans and Pearl Evans.

Melba attended Log Cabin Community Schools and completed her education and graduated from Murden High School in Taliaferro County, where she played basketball and was a stellar student in Home Economics. She joined the Springfield Baptist Church at an early age, then moved her membership to the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ for many years where her father was the Founder. Melba then moved membership to Bethlehem Healing Temple and lastly to Crawfordville Holiness Church.

Melba worked as a private nurse and owned personal care homes for over forty years. She was well known in Taliaferro County.

Melba was preceded in death by her husband, Ran Hughes and one son, Anthony Hughes.

Melba was one of twelve children, all her siblings preceded her in death: her brothers: Virtus Evans, Jefferson Evans, John Evans, Lewis Evans and Alvin Evans; sisters, Doris Eberhardt, Anne Jackson, Mattie Frazier, Ella Lee Green, Earnestine Evans and Barbara Landrum.

Melba leaves to cherish her memories her sons: Floyd (Tammy) Hughes, Jerome Hughes-Jones and Randy Hughes; two grandchildren Cortez and Chelsea Hughes; 37 nieces and nephews, and a host cousins, other relatives and friends.

Service will take place on Wednesday April 19, 2023 from the Crawfordville Holiness Church, 384 M.L.K. Jr Dr. SW, Crawfordville, GA 30631 at 3pm will Rev. William Terrell, Eulogist.
