MR. JOHN JUNIOR SIMMIONS, affectionately called “Peter Rooster”, son of Jennie Alexander Simmons and the late Richard Edmond Simmons, was born March 31, 1950 in Boydton, VA and departed this life April 5, 2023 in the Durham V A Medical Center, Durham, NC. He was also preceded in death by his sister-Jennie V. Simmons.
At an early age he was baptized and joined New Hope Baptist Church, Boydton, VA. He attended the Mecklenburg County Public Schools and later received his GED from Southside Community College, Alberta, VA.
On September 21, 1973 John was married to Theresa Jones and to this union three children were born.
On September 9, 1975 he joined the U.S. Army, where he worked as a Tank Mechanic until his retirement. John also was employed as a welder by Boiler Makers. He served also in the 275th Supply Unit, Heavy Material of the U.S. Army Reserve. Whenever he went on one of his missions with the Army, he always carried his bible with him.
In his spare time he loved to work on cars, riding bicycles, fast cars, going to the movies, watching westerns on TV, and was a karate fan.
John leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted and loving wife- Theresa J. Simmons of the home; three children- Wandarean (Corie) Simmons, Norlina, NC; Teion (Abigail) Simmons, Raleigh, NC and Shadeequah (Erin) Simmons, of the home; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; mother- Jennie Mae Simmons, Boydton, VA; seven sisters- Deborah (Rev. Sterling) Jones, Margaret Simmons, and Sadie Wood, all of Boydton, VA; Virginia (Marvin) Jones, Norlina, NC; Brenda (Jessie) Rivera, Chase City, VA; Augustine (Terry) Brown, Woodbridge, VA and Doris Hill, Saxe, VA; one brother- Richard (Austina) Simmons, Henderson, NC; two brothers-in-law- Thentress (Joyce) Jones, Goldsboro, NC and Ricky (Natalie) Jones, Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law, Truemalla Jones, Norlina, NC; devoted friends- Robert “Bobby” Powell, Leroy Williams, Brothers of National Boiler Makers, Brothers of the 275th Supply Unit and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
