Curtis was born on February 10, 1966 to Marie Pegues Pratt and the late Lugene Pratt in Chesterfield, South Carolina. Curtis is the paternal grandson of the late John S. Pratt and Cellia Myers Pratt. He is also the maternal grandson of the late Show and Mary Melton Pegues.
At an early age, Curtis was baptized in Christ and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Morven, NC. In 2015, he re-dedicated his life to Christ after a life-threatening event. Curtis was educated in the public schools of Anson County and graduated from Bowman Senior High School Class of 1984.

He also loved to draw, build birdhouses, and watch sports. Curtis loved to be around his family. Curtis' signature phrase and hand gesture was “One Love.” Throughout conversations, whenever he took a picture, greeted someone, or ended a conversation, Curtis would always let it be known that he had “One Love” for the people that were dear to his heart. Curtis was very protective of his family. He loved his mother, siblings, children, and grandchildren unconditionally and had a special bond with his nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
