Obituary For Mammie Holmes

The funeral services for the late Mrs. Mammie Holmes of 39 Brown Avenue, Ashburn, Georgia, who departed this life on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at her residence, will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m from the Friendship Baptist Church in Ashburn, Georgia with the Pastor, Reverend Dr. Marvin Cuffie, delivering the Eulogy. Mrs. Mammie Beckhom Holmes was born in Crisp County on May 15, 1930 to the late Mr. and Mrs. William Sr. and Annie Singleton Beckhom.

Mammie attended school in Turner County and later, Crisp County Public School Systems. After completing her schooling, she then moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she lived for twenty-five years. During her time in Pittsburgh, Mammie worked at a hospital. At the time of her first husband’s death, Mammie was the mother of five children: Gary, Ronald, Linda, Derky, and Louis.

Mammie later returned to Ashburn where she married her first love, Albert Holmes. While in Ashburn, Mammie worked at Turner County High School for eleven years before retiring. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and also served as a foster grandparent for eleven years.

Mammie was called home to Eternal Rest on April 27, 2023 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; sons, Gary Stevens, Louis Stevens, Derky Stevens; sisters, Thelma Climpson, Gussie Beckhom, Lillian Taylor, Anna Mae Beckhom, Lottie Jones, Inez Taylor, Alma Beckhom, Lucille Beckhom, Elizabeth Beckhom; and brothers Willie H. Beckhom, Benjamin (B.J.) Beckhom, Willie Mae Beckhom, and Hezekiah Beckhom.

Mammie leaves to mourn and cherish her memories a daughter, Linda Gates; a son, Ronald Stevens; a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Mae Office; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
