Ms. LaRose Griffin passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023.

A service honoring her life will be held Friday, May 19, 2023 at Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church; 631 East Florida Street Greensboro, North Carolina 27406. The visitation will begin at 1:30 pm and the service will follow at 2 pm.

The burial will take place following the service at Lakeview Memorial Park; 3600 N. O'Henry Blvd. Greensboro, North Carolina 27405.

LaRose Elizabeth Griffin, an identical twin, peacefully answered her heavenly Father’s call on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC. LaRose was born on October 7, 1937 in Reidsville, NC to the late C. C. Griffin and Mable Clay Griffin.

LaRose, her identical twin and their brother Leonard at early ages, received the Gift of Baptism officiated by their father as their mother was present to participate. They grew up knowing God, loving Jesus and living by the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Wherever they lived, they worship every Sunday in their church.

LaRose graduated from Logan High School in Concord, NC in 1956, where her late father was the principal. On July 4, 2014, LaRose received a medal at the Grand Reunion of Logan High School in Concord, NC for her achievement as a teacher.

LaRose continued her education at North Carolina A&T State University and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and Sociology. She was active during her time at A&T. She received a plaque from The Northern New Jersey A&T Alumni Chapter. She served on the Fundraising Committee and was the Chairperson of the Hospitality Committee.

LaRose always strived to do her best and to be the best in her field of education and in the world of work. She pursued graduate work at Jersey City State University where she received her teaching certification that prepared her to teach in grades 8-12. She was a dedicated teacher at Robert Treat School from 1961 to 1988. She was the recipient of the Classroom Innovative Award in 1971 for writing a proposal that brought revenue of 10,000.00 for the school’s reading program. She was chosen by the Behavioral Research Laboratories Consultants to conduct a midyear Project Read Workshop for teachers at Robert Treat School in January 19, 1971. While in New Jersey, LaRose also taught in the Summer Programs (Reading, Mathematics, Language Arts and Head Start). She was an active member of the New Jersey Teacher’s Organization.

LaRose was honored with a plaque for her 25 years of dedicated services by the Newark Board of education. Her retirement was short lived. She relocated to Greensboro, NC in 1988 and began work as a Counselor in the Recreation Department. LaRose worked in the Child Development Lab at NC A&T State University. When she was available, LaRose also worked as a substitute teacher in the Guilford County School System.

LaRose, on May 6, 2011, was inducted into the Society of the Golden Aggies for services to NC A&T State University and the Association for 50 years, by Clara Adams-Ender (Retired Brigadier General).

LaRose loved being with her Twin Sister Marilyn Yvonne and her Brother Leonard. They traveled with the Aggie Club and Leonard and his three sons. These were fun, family times of love and the enjoyment of screaming that international slogan, “AGGIE PRIDE!” The “Aggie Twins,” as they were affectionately called, brought much mystery to the people around them. No one could tell one from the other.

LaRose had many treasured moments. On August 3, 2002, she spoke words of reflection at the dedication ceremony when the middle school was named C.C. Griffin after her late father, in Cabarrus County.

LaRose and her twin Yvonne, were never separated for too long because of their immense desire to always stay close together. They were in the same classroom from elementary school through college, creating a challenge to their teachers and professors as they were unable to tell who was who. It was fun to them.

LaRose’s love will never leave Yvonne. Yvonne’s love will never leave LaRose. God made them two in one with hearts that have the same beat for each other.

LaRose leaves her loving family to cherish her beautiful memories: her identical twin sister, Marilyn Yvonne and Brother Leonard O. Griffin Sr., both of Greensboro, NC Her nephews, Leonard O. Griffin, Jr. of Springfield VA, Geoffrey Griffin (Vanita) of Greensboro, NC, and Kevin Griffin (Sabrina) of Savannah GA have loving and fond memories to cherish. Great Nephews Guy Griffin, Shawn Griffin and Noah Griffin and Great Nieces Nia Griffin and Morgan Griffin were blessed to have an aunt like La Rose and they, too, will greatly miss her. Cousins, friends and the A&T Family will miss LaRose and her fun-loving spirit.
