Obituary For Lucille Cass Anderson

A home going celebration for Mrs. Lucille Cass Anderson, 76, of Sylacauga will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023, at Terry's Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the funeral home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on the day of the service.

The name Lucille simply means “Light”. Light represents life, positivity, wisdom, celebration, hope, truth and intelligence. Naturally the name was quite befitting of the baby girl born to Monroe Cass Sr. and Ruth B. Reynolds Cass on June 14, 1946, in Talladega County, Alabama.

Ms. Cass committed her life to Christ at an early age and united with Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a member until her passing. She would also worship with other churches in her community as she became a fixture in Sylacauga. Lucille was a member of the 1964 graduating class of Talladega County Training School. On December 7, 1963, Julius Anderson took Lucille’s hand in marriage and to their union four children were born: Julius, Jr., Meri, Ronald and Richard.

Lucille dedicated over 30 years of service in management for CVS Pharmacy, formerly known as Big B Drugs, in Sylacauga. Civically, Lucille worked with the Sylacauga Planning and Zoning Committee, the Sylacauga Beautification Council, she served as a charter member of the Sylacauga City Schools Foundation, worked with the Sylacauga Chamber of Commerce and earned the 2013 Sylacauga Citizen of the Year. Additionally, Lucille was a supporter of the city’s athletic department, part of the organizing team for the city’s Dinner Under the Stars and a sponsor of many endeavors of Sylacauga High School. When she was not out and about working for the citizens of Sylacauga, Lucille enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.

On May 4, 2023, Lucille was called to her eternal rest. She was reunited with her husband, Julius Anderson, Sr.; her parents, Monroe and Ruth Cass, Sr.; and six siblings, Mozell Cass, Catherine C. Swain, O. C. Cass, Kenneth Cass, Myrtis Curry and Marcus Cass.

Mrs. Anderson will be sorely missed by her four children, Julius Anderson, Jr., Meri Anderson-McClintock, Ronald (Angela) Anderson and Richard Anderson; nine grandchildren, Adrinne Brown, Kendra Oakman, Jasmine Tilton, Julian Anderson, David Anderson, Tamara Anderson, Tia Anderson, Darius Anderson and Devin Anderson; seven siblings, Louise (James) Harris, Ozell Cass, Monroe Cass, Jr., Richard (Shawn) Cass, Paul Cass, Sharon (Mann) Lynch and Steven (Marcella) Curry; two great grandchildren; three godchildren, Robert (LaClaire) Douglass, Clifton Douglass and Madison (Joe) Alcaraz; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

I worked with Lucille at Big B, Revco, and finally CVS beginning in 1994 until she retired—a long time! In retail you sometimes spend more time with your coworkers than your family!! I enjoyed working with Lucille even though working retail was sometimes not so enjoyable. We went through a lot of changes. She was always so full of life so I was shocked and saddened to hear of her passing. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren and my thoughts and prayers are with you all. Beckham Jones (Pharmacist at Big B, Revco, and CVS in Sylacauga)

Cooks Drive was my home away from home. Auntee Lucille was my mom away from my own. She was prim, proper, passionate, professional...my Pretty Auntee. Everything she planted flourished...her flowers, her love for her community, and most of all her Family. She had gifted hands and a giving heart. I thank my Auntee for so many of my good childhood memories. Rusty, Sandy, Ronald and Richard, please find comfort in knowing that she was well loved and will be well remembered by so many! She lived an exemplary life and lived it to the fullest. She's home and with Uncle Duke, at last! I love you guys! Forever, Bertha LUCILLE.
