Obituary For Jessie Mae McWhorter

Jessie Mae McWhorter fell asleep in death on May 07, 2023, at the age of 76. She was born to the late Willie Robert “Doc” McWhorter and Nancy Finch McWhorter in Woodville, GA.

Much of her life was spent in service to others. She symbolized her dedication and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1983. Even as her health deteriorated, her faith in God’s promises did not. In her last days that she graced us with her voice, she often asked to go in field service to minister to others. Secularly, she served in the textile, retail, and social service business sectors. The latter was her real passion and the reason she earned a degree in Sociology from Paine College in Augusta, GA. When not working, Jessie enjoyed playing cards, watching football and game shows, listening to blues music, and collecting recipes for dishes she knew she wasn’t going to cook.

The only girl of seven siblings, Jessie was tough. Thanks to her six brothers, she didn’t “take no mess” but she also had a soft side. She was acknowledged as a gifted poet and writer in college. And according to her nieces and nephews, “Aunt Jess made the best breakfast” for her visitors. Evidently her grits and red skinned sausages were something to write home about. Her only child, whom she affectionately called “Rhonda Boo”, was also a beneficiary of homemade breakfasts every morning before school through her teenage years. Four brothers preceded her in death, Ernest Finch, Joe Louis Finch, Edward McWhorter, and Clarence McWhorter.

She will be fondly remembered by her daughter, Rhonda Allen; two brothers Willie “Tee” Finch and Tony McWhorter; two sisters-in-law Gloria Finch and Dorothy McWhorter; a cousin with whom she shared a close bond, Robert Lee McWhorter; a dear friend she often entrusted with her most prized possession, Katherine Carter, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, spiritual brothers and sisters and friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 from Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Union Point, Ga. at 1:00 p.m. with Brother J. D. Carter, Officiating.
