Mr. James Edward Burkes, 65, of Columbus, GA passed Monday, May 8, 2023 in Columbus, GA.
Memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. EST Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Charlie Hill Park, Columbus, GA with Pastor Donovan Spearman, officiating.
Mr. James Burkes was born December 29, 1957 to the late Johnnie Mae Burkes and Isaiah Edmonds, Sr. in Phenix City, AL.
James spent his early childhood in Phenix City, then his family moved to Columbus, GA where he continued his education. James was a quiet and laid back person. He was loved by his neighbors in which everyone knew him by his nickname “Tiny”.
James could do any kind of work, nothing was too hard for him to do, whether it was construction, painting, yard work or whatever he was asked to do.
James was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharica Burkes.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Sadie Burkes of Columbus, GA; son, Jermaine Burkes; two daughters ,Chantay King and Byja Burkes both of Columbus, GA; two brothers, Dale Hardge of Columbus, GA and Isaiah Edmonds, Jr. of Phenix City, AL; sister, Janice Edmonds of Phenix City, AL; six aunts, Mattie Spearman (Donovan) of Sandy Springs, GA, Hilda Goodwin of Columbus, GA, Mary Alexander (Joseph) of Phenix City, AL, Georgia Oliver of Clarkston, GA, Contessa Calhoun of Columbus, GA and Betty Jean of Columbus, GA; seven uncles, Issac Edmonds of Columbus, GA, Brady Burkes, Sr. of Jonesboro, GA, Frankie Burkes (Diane) of Cleveland, OH, J.W. Burkes (Diane) of Little Rock, AR, Lonnie Burkes and James Burkes both of Clarkston, GA and Eartha Green, III of Phenix City, AL; mothers of his children, Mary Copeland, Ruby Burkes and Michelle King; ten grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in laws and many friends.
