Lois Avery was the only daughter of the late Deathia Avery and Clarence McPherson. She was born and raised in Johnston County. Growing up, she was a member of Willow Spring Free Will Baptist Church. She graduated from Short Journey High School and later went back to school to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA).
Lois became a dedicated CNAII and worked at several nursing facilities and private duty work. She was a hard worker and took pride in ensuring her patients received optimal care. Lois cared for her patients as if they were her own family, making sure they were always clean and fed.
Lois was the matriarch of her family and always gathered everyone by feeding them. She loved cooking and enjoyed watching everyone adore her food. She was known for her sense of humor, colorful personality, and left an imprint on any room she entered. She had a passion for being well-dressed and loved to dance. Lois deeply loved and cared for her family and friends.
Lois will be dearly missed and always remembered. She passed away peacefully on May 12, 2023, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her daughters, Jackie Trice (Conrad) of Benson, NC, and Sharon Avery of Clayton, NC; two granddaughters, Latasha Joyner (Craig) of Clayton, NC, and Dominique Avery-Kennedy of Wendell, NC; three grandsons, Derrick Trice (Mary) of Garner, NC, Jaquan Avery-Kennedy of Clayton, NC, and Aaron Wallace of Clayton, NC; three great-granddaughters and six great-grandsons; and a host of other family and friends.

Burial: Mablewood Cemetery in Clayton, NC.
