Obituary For Ms. Apponia Donahue

Ms. Apponia Donahue transitioned from this life on May 15, 2023. Her funeral will be held 1:30PM on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Woodard Funeral Home Chapel. Visitations will start 30min prior to the funeral at the chapel. Interment will follow in Beulah United Church of Christ, 6494 Beulah Church Rd, Liberty, NC.

Apponia was born on September 30, 1946 in Guilford County to the late Russell and Lucille Young Smith. She was a long time resident of Greensboro and also lived several years in Richmond, Va. She entered into eternal rest on May 15, 2023, at Beacon Place in Greensboro surrounded by her family.

She received her primary education from Sedalia School in Guilford County and later attended Bennett College in Greensboro. She retired from Bank of America after over 49 years of service and held various positions within the Company.

She loved the Lord and was a member of the Word of Life Tabernacle in High Point, NC where her Pastor was Ronald Diggs.

She loved taking care of her flowers, tending to her plants and keeping her yard pristine. She also loved to cook for her family for the holidays and for Homecoming. Everyone adored her peach cobbler and often requested it. She loved to travel to football games and going to the gym almost daily to use her favorite treadmill. She loved going out with her close friends and spending quality time with her very special companion.

Apponia was preceded in death by her sister Julia Ann Cooper.

She is survived by her two children: Scott Simpson (Anne) and Kara Simpson both of Greensboro, NC; two granddaughters Danielle Scott of Charlotte, NC and Briana Simpson of Greensboro, NC; two sisters, Martha Coleman of Leland, NC and Geraldine Estes (Wallace) of Greensboro, NC; one brother, Michael Hunter of Savannah, Ga; one uncle Charlie Young of Greensboro, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and her very special companion, Lacy Donahue, Jr. of Greensboro, NC.
