Obituary For Mr. Charlie Harris Carelock

Charlie Harris Carelock was born June 8, 1943 to the late Mary Carelock Smith and the late James Huntley.

He was raised by his grandmother, the late Geneva Ingram Carelock and his uncle, the late John H. Carelock. At a young age, he gave his life to Christ and joined Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

He graduated from West Ansonville School in 1963.

After graduation, he was employed by Wiscassett Mills for many years. After which he was employed by Hanson Brick where he retired.

He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where he served on the Pastor’s Aide Committee.

His love of motorcycles led him to become a member of the Black Knight Motorcycle Organization. He also played recreational baseball/softball. He was an avid follower of all sports.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 57 years, Bertha Mae Gaddy Carelock. To this union two daughters, Tonya Carelock-Thompson (Dave) of Bridgeton, NJ and Toschia Carelock-Willoughby (Walter) of Charlotte, NC. One foster daughter, Samoria Dunlap of Ansonville, NC; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Siblings left to cherish his memories are sisters: Loretta, Patricia, Mary, Vivian, Rachel, Gloria Jean, Linda, Marilyn, Gwen (Mitchell), Jackie, Bernadette (Willie) and brothers: Lee (Lucille), Jessie (Ruby), Cleveland, Johnny, Sylvester and Kenneth. He was preceded in death by siblings: Tan, Eva, Ollie, William, James Frank, and Howard.

He had two adoptive sisters, Betty Stafford of Indiana and Wilhemenia Robinson of New York.

In addition, he has four sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law from his wife.

A host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charlie especially liked to spend time with his boys, Ronalt Gainey, Kevin Marshall and Detoris Clark.

The Homegoing Services will be on Sunday, May 21, 2023, 2:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will follow in the Carelock Family Plot of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Ansonville, North Carolina.

The public viewing will be on Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 3:30-5:30pm at Smith's Funeral Home.
