Rodney was an impeccable human being. He was brilliant and moral, but as if it was even remotely possible, he was even funnier. Whenever I saw him at work conferences, I would try to be near him as much as I could. He had me in stitches one minute and thinking deep the next. I thought he was one of the funniest people I'd ever met and one of the insightful. He combined so many things in one like that.

Rodney Andrews was the smartest black boy that came through my 3rd grade class. He was a joy to teach. I never had to call his parents when he was in my class. I didn't know them until later in life. I am so glad to have taught him so early in life and to know that his learning was not in vain. I will miss you Dr. Rodney Andrews, Ph. D. Rest in peace.

Rodney was one of the smartest people that the smartest people I know knew (Dr. Rod would have appreciated the verbal circular reference therein) . He will forever be woven into the fabric of the GT (and overall academic) experience of so many black and brown engineers, scientists, mathematicians and educators because if you shared the campus or the classroom with him you knew what excellence was and you [even if subconsciously] held yourself to a higher standard because of it. Rodney motivated me during and after our college years, even in ways he might not have realized. I'm sure countless others can say the same and, in this, he leaves a legacy of excellence. I wish Peace and Comfort to his family and I am thankful to them, and to the Universe, for sharing him with us; we are all better for having come into contact with him.

My colleagues and I at NAF were introduced to Dr. Rodney Andrews one year ago. I had heard many great things about him, and was blown away by his intellect, his passion for his work, and the gift he had for making complex edu-economics research and theories understandable and relatable for audiences. Since last year, our organization developed a strong partnership with Dr. Andrews and TSP. What I will remember most about this extraordinarily gifted and accomplished researcher, economist, and educator is how "real" he was; how committed he was to guarding the futures of ALL young people, and how much he treasured his family. To the family .... In the few opportunities we had to chat about things other than the "work," Dr. Rodney Andrews talked about YOU ... his daughter, his sons, his wife. Thank you for sharing this great man with us. We are heart-broken, yet celebratory. He was a different maker and we are grateful that his impact lives on in our work and through each of you.
