Victorine Lemon Cooper was born in Bennettsville, South Carolina to the late Ferdinand Lemon and Roberta Brown Manning on January 23, 1945. She departed this life on May 18, 2023, at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston, South Carolina.
Victorine Lemon Cooper attended Wright Elementary School and Bushwick High School in Brooklyn, New York. Victorine attended Northern Technical College pursuing studies in Secretarial Science; Florence Darlington Technical College, Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College's Continuing Education Divison in Sociology and Criminal Justice Administration.
She gave of herself tirelessly and unselfishly. She was honest, hardworking, trustworthy and dependable. She was a good wife, mother, daughter, and friend to many. She would guide you, inspire you and listen to what was said in the spaces between the words. Someone once said, “A friend is someone who sees you as you wish you were, and likes you as you really are.” That is the kind of person Victorine Cooper was.
Victorine Lemon Cooper accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age in life and she joined Galilee United Methodist Church in Bennettsville. Relocating to Fairfax, SC in 1991, she re-established her affiliation with Simpson United Methodist United Church, where she served as Lay Leader and served on various other committees until her illness.
Victorine Lemon Cooper worked seven years for the New York Telephone Company in New York, NY, eighteen years as a Secretary/Bookkeeper in the Marlboro County School District in Bennettsville, SC, nine years as a Secretary/Bookkeeper in the Allendale County School System, Allendale, SC, and ten years as the Director of Food Service for Allendale County Schools, Allendale, SC until her retirement June 25th, 2011. Upon her retirement she continued to serve as Food Service Director for several years. Contributing over 45 years to the workforce.
Victorine Lemon past and present civic, social and religious involvement includes Past Board Member of the Civil Air Patrol, Past President of Local Educational Office Professionals Treasurer of the American Cancer Society, as well as memberships in the Allendale-Fairfax South Carolina Secretarial Association, Women's Club of Fairfax, Fairfax Library Board, Unity Way Board Member, South Carolina School Nutrition Board, the South Carolina Education Association Board and Fairfax Town Council.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by (2) Sisters: Viola Manning and Rometta Manning; (3) Brothers: Alexander Lemon, Jerry Lemon and Benjamin Manning.
She leaves to celebrate her life (3) Children: Willie W. Cooper, Jr. (Roberta) Cooper, Bowie, MD, Victoria La'Nette Kelly (Michael), Moncks Corner, SC, Ferdinand Luther Cooper, Fairfax, SC. (4) Grandchildren; Jasmine Cooper, Jordan Cooper, Zion Hilliard, Ian Hilliard; (1) Step-Granddaughter, Janae Kelly; (2) Sisters: Ella Lemon Walker (Johnnie), Brooklyn, NY; Helen Lemon, Brooklyn, NY; (1) Brother; Ferdinand Lemon, Brooklyn, NY; (2) Special Nieces: Charmagne Lemon and Tatiana Lemon; Special family members: Lawrence and Graham Johnson and Theresa Williams of (Bennettsville, SC); Betty White (Ocean, NJ); Opal Kinney and family (Clio, SC) Special friend: Patricia Stokes, Brunson, SC. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sympathizing friends.
