DOROTHY’S

EARTHLY JOURNEY

“So, we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.”

II Corinthians 5:6-8

Dorothy Virden Traylor’s earthly journey began on May 26, 1934, in Barnesville, Lamar County. She was born to the union of the late Carrie Sidney Virden and Mr. Douglas Virden. She received her education at the Sardis Community School. At an early age, she confessed Christ and joined the Sandhill C.M.E. Church. She reared her family with a strong foundation in Christ. She was a self-taught reader, spending countless hours reading her Bible, and she always kept her Bible near her bed. Later in life she connected with the ministry of Whites Chapel C.M.E. Church. She proudly served as a Stewardess, Missionary Worker, and in the Hospitality Ministry.

Dorothy was a homemaker and possessed a great work ethic. She inspired her children and grandchildren. She was a lover of preserves, and she didn’t mind sharing the fruits of her labor. She loved family gatherings, and she was very photogenic, along with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter Ms. Geraldine Haygood, and a son, Mr. Ronnie Traylor. Dorothy’s earthly transition saddened our hearts, but she left a lifetime of memories.

These memories will forever be cherished in the heats of her daughters, Mrs. Dorothy (Grady) Sullivan of Barnesville, Mrs. Rosa (Jim) Middlebrooks of Juliette, Mary Jane Haygood of McDonough GA, and Ms. Janet Traylor of Barnesville; two sons, Mr. James (Cleona) Haygood of Barnesville, and Mr. Dallas (Annette) Traylor, Jr of Forsyth; thirteen grandchildren and numerous of great-grandchildren; a sister, Ms. Ethel Ellerby of Barnesville; dear friends, Ms. Mablean Pennyman and Mrs. Shawn Richardson; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
