Ms. Annie Ruth Chatman, 67, of Pittsview, AL passed Friday, June 2, 2023 in Columbus, GA.
Funeral service will be held 12 noon EST, Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Mt. Missouri Baptist Church, Hurtsboro, AL with Rev. Curtis Carlisle, pastor and Rev. Pryce J. Battle, Sr., officiating with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, June 9, 2023 from 1-5 P.M. EST.
Annie Ruth Chatman of Pittsview, AL was born on October 11, 1955, to the late Tommy Lee Chatman and Luceial Chatman. She passed away on Friday June 2, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital in Columbus, GA.
Annie Ruth graduated from Russell High School and later attended Sparks Technical College Eufaula. She earned an associate degree in computer science.
Annie Ruth accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted and faithful member of Mt. Missouri Baptist Church. Annie Ruth was employed at Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers, FL and Piggly Wiggly’s Bakery department in Phenix City, AL. She also worked many years as a substitute teacher for Russell County Schools and had a great bond with her students. They greeted her with love and respect years after teaching them.
Annie Ruth was a caring person who showed everyone love. Her home was always full of family and friends. She was well known for her great cooking. Many people will remember her delicious dressing, red velvet cakes, sweet potato pies, coconut pies, and egg pies. Not only was she a great cook, she was also an amazing dancer. Throughout the years, she won several dance contests.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tommy Lee Chatman & Luceial Chatman; daughter, Keturah Chatman; son, Christopher Jones; three brothers, Willie C. Ivery, Tommy L. Ivery, and Jimmy L. Chatman; four sisters, Catherine Lias, Nancy Mae Upshaw, Annie Pearl Lyles, and Leala Bell Peterson.
Annie Ruth leaves behind to cherish her memories her loving family; three sons, Kelvin (Marquita) Chatman of McDonough, GA, Malcolm Chatman of Pittsview, AL, and Shaquille Chatman of Fort Mitchell, AL; two granddaughters, Keyarra Chatman and Bailey Chatman; grandson, Kelvin Chatman, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; sisters, Johnnie Mae Mellion (Jessie deceased), Christine Lias (Reese deceased) of Phenix City, AL, and Cora Lee Lloyd of Detroit; brothers, Eddie James (Willie Mae) Chatman of Pittsview, AL, Kirven (Bernice) Chatman of Pittsview, AL and Arthur Lee Thomas of Augusta, GA; god children, Brenda Lias Robinson, Latisha Chatman Mckinnon, Eddie Chatman, Jr., Russell Cope, Tamekia Upshaw, and a host of other God children, nieces, nephew, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
