Matthew Epps, Sr., affectionately known as β€œSon”, a son of the late Walter Epps, Sr. and Lou Harvin Epps departed this mortal life quietly on Friday night, June 2, 2023 at McLeod Health Clarendon in Manning, South Carolina.

Matthew was one of ten children born on August 3, 1918 in the Alcolu section of Clarendon County. His mother died when he was just a baby, but was lovingly cared for by his stepmother, Annie Lou White Epps.

He was united in holy matrimony to the late Emma Brand Epps. This union was blessed with four children. One son, Matthew Epps, Jr. preceded him in death.

Matthew was a God fearing man of strength and dignity. He loved his family and God and always wanted his family to know and love God. He made sure his children read the Bible at an early age. He believed that was the best way of life. In later years he began attending the congregation of Jehovah Witness’s enjoying what he was learning and especially learning that God had a personal name, Jehovah.

Matthew was a farmer by trade, gardening, farming and his love of animals was his passion. He never met a stranger. He was a strong, little giant of a man and will truly be missed.

Those left to cherish his loving memories and to grow from being loved by him are two daughters, Emma (Lee) Jackson of Alcolu, SC and Barbara (Marvin) Blanding of Myrtle Beach, SC; one son, James (Ada) Epps of Myrtle Beach, SC; one adopted son, Willie Abraham of San Jose, CA; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other.
