Obituary For Roosevelt Ricky Garris

Winston Salem, NC

Roosevelt “Ricky” Isaac Garris, son of Marie Pearson Garris and the late Roosevelt Garris was born October 28, 1959 in Baltimore, Maryland.

He received his formal education in the public schools of Baltimore, Maryland, New York and Clarendon County where he received his high school diploma.

Professionally, he worked for many years in pipe construction with Rinker Materials Hydro Conduit in Thomasville, North Carolina. In his later years, he worked in Home Healthcare.

Ricky, truly loved his mother as they endured many of life’s challenges. He always kept in touch with her and other family members regularly, preferring to have actual conversations rather than just sending text messages. His love for them was evident in everything he did, and he always made them feel special and loved. Though he is now gone, we will always cherish the memories shared and will keep his spirit alive in our hearts.

On Saturday, May 27, 2023, Ricky’s earthly journey ended in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Survivors include his mother, Marie Pearson Garris of Manning, SC; two brothers, Sylvester Garris of Alcolu, SC and Joshua Garris of Columbia, SC; a nephew, Brian Garris of Manning, SC; eleven aunts, Rush Richburg and Lovenia Green both of Brooklyn, NY, Roxie Mae Williams of Queens, NY, Edna Evans of Pinewood, SC, Glorious Pearson-Wilson and Ruthie Mae Bozier both of Summerton, SC, Ida Pearson, Shirlean Pearson, Geraldine Garris and Jackie Nelson all of Baltimore, MD and Paulette Conyers of Sumter, SC; six uncles, Senew Pearson and Hoover Pearson both of Manning, SC, Taft (Stein) Augustine Pearson and Rock Pearson both of Summerton, SC, Longfellow Pearson and Edward Garris both of Baltimore, MD; and a host of cousins and friends.

Public viewing will be held 2:00 PM til 6:00 PM Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at Hayes F. Samuels, Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St., Manning, SC.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon Thursday, June 8, 2023, at Hayes F. Samuels Sr., Memorial Chapel, 114 North Church St. Manning, SC. Rev. Johnny Lawson, officiating and Minister Eloise Conyers-Jackson assisting. Burial will follow in the Gum Spring Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
