Pastor Bassil G. Brooks was born on March 5, 1941, in Eads, Tennessee, to the late Charlie and Sadie Brooks.
He accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church under the late Rev. C. L. Cole.
He graduated from Mt. Pisgah High School in 1961. He attended Rust College in Holly Springs, Mississippi, and attended Brewster Theological Seminary. He also attended the Tennessee School of Religion. He retired from ABF Trucking Company after thirty-one years.
Pastor Brooks was called into the ministry in 1974 under the leadership of the late Rev. W. M. Fields, Jr.
After his calling, he served as the pastor of the Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in Eads, Tennessee, from 1975-1976; it was the family church. A year later, he became the pastor of the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church in Cordova, Tennessee.
Pastor Brooks was a life-time member of the Zion District Association; during his tenure, he served as Moderator (2003-2005), Vice-President (2004-2005), and President (2005-2007).
Pastor Brooks accomplished innumerable things during his ministry for God. He was truly a God-sent man. He began a second ministry at the Mt. Pisgah Inner-City Outreach in Memphis, Tennessee. He was also the overseer of the M.C. Outreach Learning Center located directly across the street.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Brooks and Sadie Mae Brooks; one sister, Maureen Taylor Brooks; and nine brothers, Henry Brooks, Charlie Brooks, Jr., Maurice Brooks, Walter Brooks, Rev. Eddie Gene Houston, Rev. B. C. Brooks, Charles Brooks, James Taylor and Isaac Brooks.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of fifty-nine years, Mary Alice Brooks; four beautiful daughters, Arnita Brooks Rodgers (Travis), Tammy D. Watson-Royster, Kimberley D. Brooks, and Stephanie A. Brooks; one son, Rev. Herbert Davis (Barbara); five grandsons, one granddaughter, and ten great-grandchildren. He leaves two sisters, Mae Murry Cohens and Sam Etta Bland; two brothers, Leonard Brooks (Estelle) and Pastor L.B. Brooks (Brenda); eight sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He also leaves his Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church family, Mt. Pisgah Inner-City Outreach Ministry, and the M.C. Outreach Learning Center.
Pastor Bassil G. Brooks transitioned from this life on Sunday, June 4, 2023. During his final moments in the hospital, his wife asked him, “What will your next sermon be titled?” Pastor Brooks replied, “My next sermon will be titled, ‘I’m Going Through’ from the book of Joshua.”

The family will receive friends Thursday, June 8, 2023 for a public viewing from 4:00pm-6:00pm at Mt Pisgah Inner City Outreach 974 Mississippi Blvd, Memphis, TN 38126. A public viewing will also be held Friday, June 9, 2023 from 2:00pm-6:00pm with a memorial service to follow at 6:00pm both will be held at Mt Pisgah Baptist Church 1234 Pisgah Rd, Cordova, TN 38016.
Rev Bassil Brooks will lie in state Saturday, June 10, 2023 11:00am at Greater Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church 1072 S Wellington St, Memphis, TN 38126
Interment will be immediately following the service in Mt Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery 1234 Pisgah Rd, Cordova, TN 38016.
