Obituary For Jesse Deck

Jesse Deck, 83, of Greenville, South Carolina, departed this life on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. Jesse
was born in Greeneville, Tennessee to the late Brabson Deck and Mattie McClure (Deck) Choice;
he was the second born of their two children and the last surviving member of their family.
Jesse graduated from George Clem High School in Greeneville, TN. While they were not friends
in high school, ultimately, Jesse fell in love with his neighbor, Nora Anderson. Jesse and Nora
married September 27th and they were married 58 years.
He was a lover of trucks. That love of trucks created an opportunity for on-the-job training as a
mechanic for Watkins Leasing in Kingsport, TN. Jesse was transferred to Greenville, SC and
launched Jesse’s Trucking Company, where he was the mechanic and driver making deliveries
across the U.S.
Jesse was devout in his faith. After moving to Greenville, SC, Jesse and his family attended
Maranatha Baptist Church, where he served as choir director, oversaw the bus ministry, and
served as a trustee.
While he was preparing for a serious neck surgery, Jesse’s mother, Evangelist Mattie Choice,
and a few saints from Greater St. James Temple gathered in his home to pray. After his
experience in prayer and a successful surgery and recovery, Jesse began seeking a deeper
relationship with Jesus Christ and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Jesse and his family
were saved and became members of Greater St. James Temple.
Jesse faithfully attended and served at Greater St. James Temple, until his health declined in
recent years. He was a member of the brotherhood and a man of prayer joining the “Prayer
Band” ministries. With every encounter, Jesse could be heard exclaiming “Well Praise the Lord!
How you doing?”
Jesse was deeply loved and cherished by his family. Jesse is survived by his wife, Nora; two
sons, Avery (Dawn) Deck and Alan Deck; three grandchildren, Alex LaQuincy, Aaron Deck and
Alexander Deck; and a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Greater St. James Temple, Inman, SC. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Greer, SC.
