Wilby Wallace, Jr. was born on September 9, 1934, to the union of Wilby Wallace and Georgia Davis Wallace in Talladega, Alabama.

Mr. Wallace was a member of the Greater Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church at a young age. He later joined Mt. Wilby proudly attended Westside High School, but graduated from Talladega County Training School. During his lifetime, he had been employed at Kimberly Clark Corporation, Newberry Foundry, Talladega City Schools, Jim Pruitt Automotive, the State of Alabama and most notably served as the first African American police officer for the city of Talladega and had the distinction of serving, although on an interim basis, as the first African American police chief for the city of Talladega as well. In his spare time, Wilby enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his yard and gardening.

My sincere condolences to the Wallace Family. Wilby Wallace, Jr. was, in my opinion, a man for all seasons. I found him to be smart, talented and a very motivated person. Wilby was not reluctant to try his hand at whatever opportunities came to him in the way of helping people and advancing society at-large. I first met him in 1961, during one of his Sunday morning radio programs on WNUZ in Talladega. From there, I witnessed Wilby try his hand successfully, at groundbreaking positions which were well noted both locally and Statewide. As a trailblazer and noted popular figure, Wilby will be remembered fondly by all who came to know him. Wilby made a place for himself and opened doors for others to follow. Well done Wilby, well done. Charlie Varner, Jr., Montgomery, Alabama.
