Missionary Gloria Jean Cabiness, 75, of Golden Gate Drive, Greensboro, NC departed from this life Friday, June 9, 2023, at Moses Cone Hospital. She was born May 4, 1948, to the late George E. Dodson and Amanda Dillard Dodson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Scott Cabiness and two sisters, Elizabeth Inez Stockton, and Buena Maxine Dodson.
Gloria was a graduate of Langston High School, and after graduation she went on to attend the National Business College. She worked as a private duty nurse until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Shiloh Way of The Cross Church where she was a missionary, participated in the choir, and was a Christian Sunday school student.
Those left behind to cherish her memory include her two sons, Kirkwood (Sandra) Cabiness of Greensboro, and Earl Scott Cabiness, Jr. of Martinsville, VA; one sister, Amanda Cabiness of Ridgeway, VA; three brothers, Melvin C. Dodson of Martinsville, VA, George E. Dodson, and Larry D. Dodson both of Axton, VA; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
There will be a family visitation Friday, June 16th 2023, at 12 noon until the time of her funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at Shiloh Way of The Cross Church of Christ, Martinsville, VA. Bishop Earley Dillard and Travell Travis are in charge of the service. The burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens, Martinsville, VA. A public viewing will be held, Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home, from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.
