Ida Mae Evans was born on February 5, 1946, in Salters, South Carolina, to the late Rufus Sr. and Mary (McCrea) Burgess.
Ida completed her primary and secondary education in Williamsburg County (South Carolina). Upon her marriage to Louis Verndell Evans, also a native of South Carolina, she and Louis moved to Clearwater, Florida, in 1967. They became members at Mt. Olive African Methodist Episcopal Church. Her years of devoted service at Mt. Olive AME included but were not limited to, the Young People’s Division (YPD) Director and the choir.
Ida was employed with Instrument Transformers, Inc. for 35 years before retiring in 2014. Her employment NEVER prevented her from traveling nationwide to attend Andrea’s, Alicia’s, and Anthony’s (deceased) basketball and football games. She was a devoted mother and loved being “in the stands.” During her retirement, her grandson, Arquis Anthony, began his journey as a two-sport athlete in basketball and football, again allowing her to become a vocal presence “in the stands.”
Ida was preceded in death by her son, Louis Anthony Evans Jr., and her mother and father, Rufus Sr., and Mary (McCrea) Burgess.
On June 9, 2023, Ida’s cherished memories were entrusted to her devoted husband of 56 years, Louis Verndell Evans; daughters, Andrea Evans-Dixon (Fred) and Alicia Evans; grandchildren, Arquis Anthony Reynolds, Alaina Wade, and Alaisha Wade; sisters, Estelle Blanding (Richard), Leola Wilson (Wille), and Mary Frances Bufkin; brothers, Rufus Burgess, Jr. (Queen) and Raymond Burgess (Isabelle); sisters-in-law, Ruby Singletary, Virginia Miller, Mary Williams, Rovanna Joyce Kendrick (Frank) and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
