Military Honors for Alvin West, 46, of Opelika, AL, will be at 11:30 a.m. (CST), Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, 553 Highway 165, Fort Mitchell, AL 36875.

Mr. West, who passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023, in Smyrna Georgia, was born September 7, 1976 in Roanoke, Virginia.

Public viewing will be Tuesday, June 20, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.(CST).

Alvin was an Auburn High School Class of 1995 graduate. Upon graduation, Alvin enlisted in the United States Army where he completed basic training at Fort Sill, OK. After basic training he completed his first duty station in South Korea at Camp Kasey as a Bradley Tank Driver, next assignment was Fort Hood, TX, as military police. From 2003 to 2004, he was deployed to Iraq with the Alabama National Guard 214 Military Unit from Alexander City, Alabama and Tuskegee, Alabama.

While serving in the United States Army he received several medals, badges and ribbons which included: Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Korean Defense Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon and Sharpshooter Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar. He also completed the Combat Lifesaver Course.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory: mother, Viola West-Jackson of Opelika, AL; aunt, Joyce Daniels of Opelika, AL; a host of other relatives and friends.
