( August 27, 1943 – June 3, 2023 )
ATHENS--Funeral service for Lois McDonald, Athens, will be 1 PM, Saturday at Gates Community Church with Rev. Bill Burton serving as eulogist. Interment will follow at North Athens City Cemetery under the direction of John R. Harmon Undertaking Company.
Lois McDonald was born August 27, 1943, to Willie McDonald and Alberta Monroe McDonald both preceding her in death. She received her education in Athens, Texas, attending Fisher High School, graduating with the class of 1962. She loved Fisher High School.
Lois was a member of Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Athens, TX at an early age and was a loyal member until her health began failing. She was a very Christian woman who loved to dress up and loved being in church all the time. She loved her church family and friends and will be sorely missed by many, young and old that were blessed to know her.
Lois worked at Athens Cleaners and Laundry Mat for many years. She was a domestic worker caring for her father and assisting her mother. Lois was always babysitting her nieces and nephews.
Upon the declination of her health, Lois resided in South Place Nursing Center, West Place Nursing Center, and her last place of residence being Park Hyland Nursing Center.
On Saturday, June 3, 2023, God was walking in His garden, looked around and noticed he needed another one of his children to make his garden complete, so he sent his angels to UT Health Athens, and stationed them at Lois’ bedside. Lois put on her wings, took flight, and made a peaceful transition in the arms of Jesus. The final chapter in the Book of Life for Lois McDonald has been completed. “Well done thou good and faithful servant.”
Preceding her in death were her parents: Willie and Alberta Monroe McDonald; brothers: Myles, Charles, Willie Alvin, Curtis, Albert, Billie Gene, and Freddie Lee McDonald; sisters: Mary and Bertha McDonald.

Collins; a host of nieces and nephews: Frederick (Lora) McDonald, Katherine Jean McDonald, Donna McDonald Anderson, Marilyn McDonald all of Athens, TX, Charles (Linda) Cade, Houston, TX, Janice, Latonya, Carletta, Marcus, Tracy, Dedra, Shantelle, Barbara, Teresa, Jeanella Cook, Harriett McDonald; along with a host of great and great-great- nieces; sisters-in-laws: Arma Jean McDonald and Mary McDonald; a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
